French & Jupps are roasted malt specialists in Stanstead Abbotts, Hertfordshire, producing speciality roasted and crystal malts for brewers and the food and drink industry. They've been malting since 1689, and source their barley from farms close to the maltings.

Photography and film for French & Jupps, following their barley from the field to the finished malt.
We photographed the whole journey: barley growing and ripening in the field, the harvest itself, and then the malt, lit indoors so the colour of each roast shows in the grain. The photographs are used across the French & Jupps website and brochure. The film tells the story across a century. A fictional maltster from a hundred years ago walks through the village to the maltings, and as he steps inside it becomes the present day: the same lead, now the modern maltster, carries the malt on through today's operations to its final delivery.
